Ile d’Elbe: Chataignes et Champignons
La montagne, verdoyante et fraîche, ressemble à un oasis où poussent de puissants arbres de haute fûtaie. Les habitants de l’île ont toujours exploité cette ressource en y plantant les châtaigniers sûrement depuis le XIVème siècle ; ses fruits, frais, séchés ou réduits en farine, ont constitué l’aliment de base pour les populations de montagne jusqu’à il y a un demi-siècle. Les châtaignes murissent en octobre, quand les feuilles commencent à jaunir et la bogue s’ouvre pour libérer ses fruits. Durant cette période, la montagne de l’île se colorent de tons chauds qui entrecoupent le vert éternel du maquis méditerranéen.
CHAMPIGNONS - Châtaignes et vin forment un couple auquel vient s’ajouter le champignon, inoubliable fruit de saison. Dans divers endroits de l’île, durant l’automne entre les forêts de chênes verts, plus de 200 espèces de champignons sont présentes dont les plus recherchés et appréciés sont sans aucun doute le bolet et l’oronge.
